Kate Bond is a neo-soul artist, who enthuses Lily Allen's lyrical tone with a powerful political edge inspired by hip-hop. Just short of a year into her career, hailing from Bradford, she has found much success in the North East music scene after kickstarting her career in Newcastle shortly after graduating University. She has already gained national backing from the likes of Gemma Bradley, who has continued to support each song on Radio 1 since her debut single Beauty Sleep. She was aptly named BBC introducing's tip for 2022 and has just played her first Introducing stage at Summer Streets festival.
The next single, which will be part of the EP and will start to echo this more full frontal political tone will be the song 'We just want to be loved'. Written post Sarah Everard and pre the overturn of Roe vs Wade, it feels as though Kate's message is timeless. Talking about the impunity of sexual assault cases and violence against women, the court based imagery that the song alludes scarily to the current struggle of women in America against the court of justice. Though relevant to current politics, the song was originally inspired by her own experiences during University, and the stories told by her friends about theirs.
